Tanabata ??
Originally part of the preparation for the Bon Festival, Tanabata combines many forkloric traditions. A hata (or bata) is a loom, on which chosen young girls used to weave cloth for the gods; setting looms on platforms or shelves (tana in Japanese) at the river side. Later, the star festival of Chinese origin was combined with these traditions in today’s Tanabata Festival. Children write wishes on tanzaku (strips of paper) in five colors, mainly praying for success in their studies. Read more »
